European School for Medical Physics Experts On-line Registration

ESMPE School for Interventional Radiology Practices

The school will be aimed at introducing the basic concepts of interventional radiology practices for medical physicist. An introductory overview of the radiation effects in interventional radiology and patient and skin dose management is provided. Different types of interventional procedures will be reviewed from interventional cardiology and to interventional radiology and neuroradiology. In addition, technology currently used for interventional radiology will be reviewed and presented by different companies.

School for Radiation Biology

This school provides medical physicists working in both imaging and therapy with a comprehensive foundation in radiation biology. The curriculum introduces fundamental principles, including DNA damage and repair mechanisms, radiationinduced cellular death (apoptosis, necrosis, mitotic catastrophe), and the distinction between deterministic and stochastic effects. It also covers molecular and cellular responses to ionizing radiation, including the roles of free radicals, bystander effects, and genomic instability. The course then builds upon these basics to explore clinically applied models, such as the Linear Quadratic Model (LQM), which is essential for understanding fractionation, radiosensitivity, and dose–response relationships. Additional topics include cell cycle kinetics, tissue-specific radiosensitivity, and radiobiological principles underlying treatment strategies like hypofractionation and radiosensitization.
