PET/CT QC - Python scripts | Prepared by the EFOMP Working Group (WG) on "PET/CT and PET/MR QC Protocol"

Publication Date: Sep 6th, 2026 21:32, Category: EFOMP Announcements

The EFOMP Working Group on “PET/CT and PET/MR QC Protocol” chaired by Dr Roberta Matheoud (IT) prepared the EFOMP GUIDELINE "Quality control in PET/CT and PET/MR" - software tools user manual.

It is one of the results, where is briefly described general requirements, possible limitations, and etc. (see attachments).

PET/CT QC - Python codes were tested for accuracy with Siemens biograph mCT data. Tests with Philips and GE were done only to a limited extent mainly for compatibility reasons.

07.09.2022 - newer Python version compatibility issues solved by Matteo Bagnalasta (Nuclear Medicine, Foundation IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milan, Italy)!

17.07.2023 - Uniformity analyzer calculation corrected by Matteo Bagnalasta (Nuclear Medicine, Foundation IRCCS Istituto Nazionale Tumori, Milan, Italy) - slice variability checked based on average phantom SUV (not SUV = 1 as in previous version)!

26.07.2024 - RC_analyzer calculation of COV corrected by Evon Smyth (University College Dublin, Dublin, Ireland) is attached!

24.09.2024 - all scripts corrected. A deprecated Pydicom function read_file was replaced by dcmread function. This prevents any issues with newer Pydicom versions (thanks to Christian Bracco, Mauriziano Hospital, Turin, Italy)

29.08.2025 - added RC_peak calculation using 3D convolution with a spherical kernel (according to PERCIST methodology and Siemens White Paper), extended GUI and results export to include RC_peak values (thanks to Anna Kufova, Nemocnice AGEL Novy Jicin, Czech Republic)

02.07.2026 - CRC calculation added based on Sunderland JJ, J Nucl Med 2025; 00:110

               - user can switch between RC and CRC results, export includes both metrics

               - rotating MIP instead of two stable from different views

               - for batch processing of the same data recorded multiple times

               - lesion diameters are kept when opening another dataset

               - new 'Background position' section: manual entry / recall of the background ROI, export includes its position

               - minor bugs corrected

               - by Jaroslav Ptacek (University Hospital Olomouc, Czech Republic)
