EFOMP Policy Statement 20 “Physiological Measurements and Medical Physicists | Call for Members

EFOMP hereby announces a new Working Group (WG) entitled “EFOMP Policy Statement 20 “Physiological Measurements and Medical Physicists”.  The WG will operate under the Professional Matters Committee from November 2022 to December 2024. 

The proposal for Policy Statement 20 was introduced during the Officers Meeting in Helsinki, Finland in May 2022 and approved by the Annual Council in Dublin, Ireland on the 20th of August 2022.

The rationale of the WG: Medical physicist's roles include related to ensuring of diagnostic quality in physiological measurements in different medical specialties. They set unique requirements for accurate and safe measurements and each require specially designed measurement tools, artifact rejection/correction, shielding solutions and software.  Medical Physicist, working with physiological measurements, specific certification is obtained, with clinical practice required, by taking exams in the physics’ fields of electrocardiography, electroencephalography, magnetoencephalography, electromyography, polysomnography, respiratory diagnostics, intraoperative monitoring, transcranial magnetic stimulation, electrostimulation, electrical safety etc.

The chair of the WG is Petro Julkunen (FI) and the expected outcome is EFOMP Policy Statement no 20: Physiological Measurements and Medical Physicists.

The deadline to establish the WG is December 2022. National Members Organisations are kindly asked to distribute this announcement to their members.

Nomination must be made through the NMO (no self-nominations are allowed). A professional CV is required. Please fill in the attached application form.

The term for accepting nominations is from 2nd September 2022 to 18th November 2022.
