Support | Ukrainian RT departments

Dear NMO's and Colleagues,

Since the war broke in Ukraine, I have been doing my best to help Ukrainians to survive through this dark period of their history. My family and friends are there at the moment. Together with WeHelpUkrainians and Amethyst Radiotherapy UK we have successfully supplied medicines to a number of hospitals via groups of volunteers. We would like now to support Radiotherapy departments, and need your help.

Even before the war, Ukraine did not have enough equipment for RT Centres, especially the modern one. The service included only 25 Linacs in operation (for a population of 46 millions!), others were mainly Cobalt machines. At the moment about 75% of those centres are treating at best, whilst the number of patients has tripled in some areas. The centres are in acute need of immobilisation devices, including masks and blouses. Many medical warehouses have been destroyed or are unavailable due to logistical issues, 15 airports destroyed, many bridges and highways damaged. Ruslan Zelinskyi, the president of the Ukrainian Association of Medical Physicists, together with Help Ukrainian Team, provided a list of necessary immobilisation masks for hospitals. The vendors have donated some equipment, but it not enough to cover current needs.

How you can help
We would be very grateful if your hospital is willing to donate a mask. If 10 hospitals donate 3-5 masks each, 1 Ukrainian Radiotherapy department will be able to operate for 3-4 months. They are in such desperate need that they actively re-using them to treat as many patients as possible. Please contact me if you would like to help. We will collect them in London and ship to Ukraine through our volunteers. I attached the list of items needed, please do not hesitate to come back to me should you wish any further information of discuss this urgent matter with me.

You can help by donating on our GoFundMe page. Even the smallest of donation can make a difference to enable us to purchase as much as we can from vendors.

Thank you very much in advance!
