In Memoriam Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schlegel

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schlegel passed away on June 30, 2022 at the age of 77. Wolfgang Schlegel worked for most of his career at the German Cancer Research Center, where he headed the Department of Medical Physics in Radiation Therapy from 1994 to 2014. He was an Honorary Member of the German Society for Medical Physics (DGMP) and a recipient of their DGMP Glocker Medal. He was President of EFOMP from 2006 to 2008 and became Honorary Member in 2018.

Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Schlegel was a pioneer in medical physics. Numerous procedures and techniques that are used today in clinics and practices worldwide and enable more precise irradiation of tumors can be traced back to the developments of Schlegel and his colleagues.
