The 6th EFOMP-EUTEMPE webinar will take place on Tuesday 23rd, March 2021 12:00 CET.
Webinar: A guided tour of x-ray CT through dosimetry and image quality assessment (1 hour)
by Prof. John Damilakis, Greece
Radiation dose from x-ray computed tomography (CT) and image quality assessment have received attention during the last years due to the growing number of CT procedures carried out worldwide and the high patient doses from these procedures. This presentation aims to provide an overview of the current concepts of CT dosimetry and image quality assessment, discuss strengths and limitations and anticipate future developments in patient CT dosimetry. A novel web-based tool for the estimation of patient organ doses and risks from chest CT and image quality assessment is currently being developed as part of the MEDIRAD project. Results of this research effort will also be presented during this webinar. Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to increase the speed of calculations and provide accurate real time organ dose estimates. The use of AI in CT dose optimization and its limitations will be briefly discussed.
