YORK/BRUSSELS – 17 July 2019 - Earlier this July, 75 Medical Physics Experts gathered in Prague to attend the EFOMP and COCIR Summer School “State of the art & new trends of angiographic equipment: Image quality, Patient and Staff dosimetry”, endorsed by the European Society of Radiology (ESR).
The Summer School was organised in collaboration with the Czech Association of Medical Physicists and the Department of Dosimetry and Application of Ionizing Radiation of the Faculty of Nuclear Sciences and Physical Engineering, Czech Technical University.

The participants hailed all the way from Austria, Belgium, Cyprus, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, France, Finland, Greece, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Portugal, Poland, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Sweden, Slovenia and Switzerland.

Lecturers were medical physics experts selected by EFOMP and Company experts identified by COCIR, representing  Siemens Healthineers, GE Healthcare, Philips Healthcare and Canon Medical Systems.
During the event lecturers introduced new developments and presented insights on technical solutions adopted by manufacturers in relevant fields of angiographic systems to reduce and manage the radiation dose and to improve image quality.
Key topics covered were: state of the art and new trends of angiographic equipment (hardware and software); equipment dosimetry and patient-specific dosimetry; staff dosimetry protocols and Image quality evaluation, including setting CT protocols per specific clinical indications.

The next edition of the EFOMP school for Medical Physics Experts (ESMPE), which is also jointly organised with COCIR, will take place in Warsaw on October 10th to 12th and is endorsed by the European Society for Radiotherapy and Oncology (ESTRO). This will be the 2nd edition of the ESMPE devoted to radiotherapy, following a successful course on “Imaging in Radiotherapy” that took place in Prague in 2017. This year’s edition will focus on “Treatment Planning Systems” and will be hosted by the Polish Society of Medical Physicists. Online registration is now open and is accessible on this web page.

COCIR and EFOMP, following their Memorandum of Understanding signed in March 2017, are confident that such regular and frequent joint initiatives contribute to promotion of the best use of the medical technology involving ionizing radiation for the betterment of health care.
